Today is the start of the BCI Summit in Sydney. I am attending for both days of the summit plus the Resilience Workshop on Friday.
Generally my posts this week will be on the conference – and just for something different I will be updating each days post as an ongoing journal of the days activities.
Keynote Presentations
Two good presentations from leading academics got the day started.
- Professor Beverley Raphael – good insights into resilience at the individual level.
- These people issues are still not being fully addressed in corporate BC preperation.
- Dr John Vargo from ResOrgs at University of Canterbury (a regular reference on this blog).
- They have developed a tool for benchmarking resilience.
- Not publicly available as yet, but already looking forward to his presentation on this tool at WCDM.
Other sessions
- As with all conferences presentations do vary, and sometimes we pick the wrong breakout session (or perhaps it is just that the grass is always greener in the session you don’t go to).
- Swapping war stories and opinions over coffee and lunch is always valuable.
- Metcash cash study on recovery of a grocery distribution centre was very good. Raised the need for a culture of execution and strong sense of team (no silos!) to achieve this type of high level and recovery. Good work Steven Newton.

Hi ken,
I bet you're busy at the conf now, with little or no time to read, leat alone respond to comments on your blog, but thanks for alerting me to this event, and for reminding me of the WCDM, not that I intend to go, but it gives me somnething to blog about 🙂 Anyway, I wish I could have been there and listened to your presentation and I hope you will make it available on your blog, once you find the time, maybe even as an online webinar?

Hello Jan, has been hectic, in-depth professional discussions have continued well into the evening. 😉
I shall upload the presentation here tomorrow – not sure about the webinar, perhaps that will have to wait for another day.
