It has been a while since I posted here, I wonder if anybody has missed me?
I have been using the time I used to spend writing for the blog to develop two other platforms, and both are getting very positive responses from their audiences.
Sad to admit but over recent months my best work is being published in other places.
The good news is both are free and it would be great if you came and shared that material.
The first is my weekly newsletter, the Resilience Ninja Newsletter. Ok, sometimes it comes out less frequently than weekly, but we all have day jobs too.
The newsletter is focussed on helping people build skills needed for the journey towards resilience. These are not basic risk or BCM techniques, but skills needed to succeed in implementing change in todays’s complex organisations. The three key focus areas I promote in my newsletter are;
- Collaboration – you wont be travelling the road to resilience alone, and you will need to be able to get along with those you meet along the way.
- In this area we look at learning from other disciplines – thinking outside the single discipline and body of knowledge. Looking at ways people learn, and learn to operate in groups. Not just what we learn, but how we think, how the mind informs our actions – or worse mindless reactions.
- Curation – is the heart of the newsletter.
- You don’t have to create a lot of new content, but you do need to learn how to collect, understand and present relevant content in your context.
- Coaching – often we do not have positional authority and need to be able to lead by influence and to develop rather than direct others to our goal.
- Looking at new models of leading and self-development.
Here is an example of an earlier issue – “How to help people build their capability“. If you like what you are reading, then you can subscibe via the link in the right sidebar page, or you can use this link.
The second, and more recent project, is my new Podcast – “Beyond the Black Stump”.
This only launched 2 weeks ago and there are a couple of ways that you can access this content. The simplest way is to subscribe on your smart phone;
- You can use this link to get to the iTunes page, or search for the title in the iTunes application
- If you subscribe then each new episode will automatically be downloaded to your phone and be ready to listen whenever you are ready.
- If you prefer to listen on the web, visit http://BlackStump.FM where you can find the audio plus a number of other useful features.
- Links and references that are mentioned or discussed on the show will be here, so you don’t have to make a note of them when listening. I tend to listen to podcasts as I am driving to and from work – so taking notes is not really an option in that case.
- You will also be able to access a full transcript of the show on this site – a useful feature when you just want to review part of the session, or for those that prefer to read rather than listen to study content.
- Finally there is LinkedIN community that I hope will become a place to discuss and debate ideas raised in the show. All are welcome in this community, you can find it on this link and it is free to join.
The show is about ideas, and encouraging thinking. That starts from the premise that Thought Leadership means encouraging thinking and the thinking process – not telling people what they should think, or why they should buy your product or service.
Each episode of the show will be based on a conversation with a fellow practitioner. They will share their journey, the context they currently find themselves in, and their ideas about current and future practice.
Everybody can be a Thought Leader, we need to have the conversations to share views and develop new ideas. Thats why the discussion community will be so valuable to the overall value of the project.
The most popular episode of the show thus far has been the interview with Nathaniel Forbes – Uncomfortable ideas, delivered with passion and persuasion
