… WCDM Day 1

So much to choose from, 9 current presentations in each time slot – plus the various plenary sessions.

Highlights of the day for me were the presentation by Robert Kay, conversation around the table at lunch and of course my own presentation.

Robert Kay is an Australian and is not part of the BC/EM community. He spoke about stakeholder engagement and the need to understand different organisational dynamics and the way in which people from with different backgrounds and training actually understand an perceive risk differently – and he had some great funny stories at the expense of actuaries.

I will post in more detail about the Explore/Exploit model he spoke about later. Let me just leave you with his summary points;

  • Resilience is an “explore” activity
  • To succeed it must address an unmet need

To often we forget that last bit. Just because we are passionate about the subject does not mean that others will be keen to invest in it.

Here is the slidepack from my presentation, when I get a chance (after I get home next week) I will record the presentation and publish that. A word of warning, there are a number of timed builds and with AuthorStream you need to wait for those builds to happen – fast forward moves to the next slide.

Any comments appreciated.
